Do you ever have words you’ve only pronounced in your head, only to find out when you hear them that you’ve been wrong your entire life? For instance, I didn’t know until well into adulthood that “gelding” was pronounced with a hard “g.” And I had somehow defaulted to the British pronunciations of “patina” and “detritus.” But one think I’ve never mispronounced is “frozen creamy mocha concoction with whipped cream vodka and topped with whipped cream.” It’s pronounced “milk-shake.”
