began in 2008 when Nashville’s gritty, emerging Melrose neighborhood was on the verge of a revival. Melrose didn’t yet have a great neighborhood bar, so Nashville native Austin Ray took his strong passion for sharing craft beer with friends and opened the first M.L.Rose location. The storied building had rich history, and as M.L.Rose, it became a place where studio musicians, hospitality workers, and celebrities mingled with local residents to create a laid-back, full-of-life, stay-a-while kind of place.
As the city has grown, so has M.L.Rose. We now have locations in six distinct greater Nashville communities, all founded on our belief that good beer makes good neighbors. We strive to win the hearts of each of these communities through our comfortable, easygoing destinations, kind and neighborly service, and community involvement. We proudly support local schools and organizations and provide growth opportunities for our team.

Meet your neighbor, Austin! Nashville native Austin Ray opened the first M.L.Rose Craft Beer & Burgers (then Melrose Neighborhood Pub) on December 9, 2008. After noticing the absence of a neighborhood watering hole, he dreamed up a ‘third place’ – a comfortable spot to unwind and socialize outside of home and the office. The first location was built into an existing space, preserving the charm and history of the neighborhood. From there, each location strives to offer a balance of updated amenities and colorful charm unique to each neighborhood.
“The decision to open M.L.Rose came about because I wanted a place to hang out with my friends in the neighborhood where I lived, and I learned that I wasn’t alone in that desire,” said Austin. “Back in 2008, the Melrose neighborhood of Nashville was on the verge of transformation and in need of a great neighborhood bar. From day one, M.L.Rose has been a friendly, comfortable place for friends and neighbors to get out without getting fancy. Today, those core values remain, though we constantly adapt our offerings and environment to meet the needs and desires of our many neighbors.”
We’ve grown along with the city, and now offer six neighborhood locations (with more on the way) where we share our love of good beer and burgers with guests.
