She Who Feasts: M.L.Rose

By Brooke O’Dell, Williamson Scene

One of the great things about Williamson County is there is no shortage of places to get a good burger. One of the bad things about Williamson County is there are so many good places to get a good burger that it is hard to know where to start.

For our burger-inspired feast for fifty dollars, my husband and I finally took a trip to visit the new M.L.Rose on Columbia Avenue. Unlike several of you reading, I had yet to go to other locations, so I was excited to see what the fuss was about.

Upon entering the new location, you can easily remember the essence of the previous Chili’s by the interior layout. However, that is quickly overlooked by the bright neons and busy décor covering the walls from floor to ceiling.

I always start by asking servers what items they suggest. I appreciate hearing a menu overview, even if I already have in mind what menu items sound the best. Our waitress quickly informed us of her personal favorites and the customizations she adds to make the menu items even better than listed.

At her recommendation, we started our meal with the Nashville Hot Cheese Curds with homemade ranch. It’s easy to see why these pillowy pockets of gooey cheddar are a favorite. The spice level is just right, unless you catch wind of it between breaths, which might get you a bit choked up.

For our entrees, we split the Jam Burger with sweet potato fries and the Belgian Burger with waffle fries (we asked for them to be dusted in that Nashville Hot Chicken powder). The Jam Burger features two beef patties topped with smoked cheddar, bacon, crispy onions, BBQ sauce, and a sweet red pepper jam. The burger was solid, with none of the flavors particularly dominating, but it would be even better with a jammy egg on top. The Belgian consists of two beef patties topped with smoked gouda, chopped bacon, crispy onions, lettuce and a garlic peppercorn aioli. This burger was also good and had a unique flavor profile with the flavor-packed aioli. Both burgers were fresh and hot and delivered on the flavors as promised. I paired mine with a Docs Sour Cherry Cider, and if you are a cider fan, I highly recommend this unique, sweet New York cider.

The M.L.Rose menu has unique flavors that appeal to all taste buds. I look forward to returning to try one of the delicious-looking turkey burgers or monthly specials like the Five-Alarm Burger. It’s easy to see why locations keep popping up in Middle Tennessee. This was an excellent find for our fifty-dollar dinner.
